We Offer ADHD Evaluations for Children

Our evaluations are for children ages 8-18.

CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING TESTING CLIENTS

Since many symptoms of ADHD are common childhood behaviors, it can be difficult to determine what is considered ADHD and what is not. There may also be underlying symptoms of depression and/or anxiety as well that can overlap in symptoms. Psychologists can help assess your child’s symptoms and behaviors and determine the appropriate treatment.

ADHD is not one-size fits all.

ADHD is classified into different types based on symptoms. Predominantly inattentive, which includes extreme difficulty focusing, finishing tasks, and following instructions. Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive class can consist of fidgeting, restlessness, and above regular activity and energy levels. The most common type of ADHD is a combined hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive type, which includes both sets of symptoms.

There are several ways to treat ADHD that our psychologists can help with. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is an evidence-based therapy that can help parents and children better understand how to monitor and manage behaviors at home and school.

What our assessment will look like for your child/teen.

During the intake, our psychologists will make recommendations for assessments that may help better identify whether current symptoms meet the criteria for a diagnosis of ADHD. Obtaining a proper diagnosis is essential in treating your child or adolescent.

Because there can be other psychological issues with similar symptoms of ADHD, such as depression, anxiety, and other behavioral disorders, assessments may also include looking at differential diagnoses. Evaluations often include obtaining a very detailed background and history of the child/adolescent at home and school.

The actual assessment will include computerized testing assessing various aspects of attention and impulsivity and various measures completed by the child, parent/caregiver, and teachers. A written report will be given during the feedback session, including background information, behavioral observations, testing results, interpretation of the results, and recommendations for home and school.
